Who we are
Woven in Asia (woveninasia.com) is published by Portfo Studio in Vietnam, which is responsible for the data described here. For any question or request about your data, write to trang@portfostudio.com.
The Woven Letter
When you subscribe we collect your email address. It is stored by Kit, the service that sends the Letter, and used only to send it. Kit records whether an email is opened and which links are clicked, so we can see which stories are read; we look at those figures as totals. Every Letter has a one-click unsubscribe link, and we can delete your address altogether if you ask.
Story submissions
If you send us a story through the submission form, we keep what you write (your name, organisation, email, links and story) in our private editorial system, only to consider the story and reply. It is never published unless we agree a story with you. Ask us at any time to delete it.
Reading figures
We use Google Analytics to count visits: which pages are read and for how long, the country and city a visit comes from, the device and browser language, and how you reached us (search, social, the Letter). Google Analytics does not store IP addresses, and we see totals, never individual readers. Advertising features and Google signals are switched off. Google keeps this data for no longer than 14 months.
If you are in Europe (the EU, EEA, UK or Switzerland), Google Analytics runs only if you accept it. Elsewhere it runs from your first visit, and you can decline at any time. Either way, declining changes nothing about the site.
Cookies we use
| Name | What it does | Kept for |
|---|---|---|
woven_consent | Remembers your cookie choice | 6 months |
woven_letter (stored in your browser) | Remembers that you subscribed, so stories stop asking | Until you clear it |
_ga, _ga_… | Google Analytics: tells one visit from the next (only if analytics is allowed) | 2 years |
Editors previewing unpublished stories get a technical cookie of their own; readers never do. Films play from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which may store data on your device once you press play, or from Vimeo with its tracking switched off.
Other services
The site is hosted by Vercel, which keeps short-lived technical logs (such as IP addresses) to run and protect the service. Stories and images are stored with Sanity, and images load from its servers. These providers handle data on our behalf only.
Where your data goes
Kit, Google, Vercel and Sanity may process data outside Vietnam and the EU, including in the United States. They do so under the safeguards they provide for international transfers, such as the European Commission’s standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under Vietnam’s personal data protection rules (Decree 13/2023/NĐ-CP) and, for readers in Europe, the GDPR, you can ask to see the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or withdraw consent you have given. Write to trang@portfostudio.com and we will reply promptly. You can also complain to your data protection authority.
Children
Woven in Asia is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16.
Changes
If we change how we handle data, we will update this page and the date above, and tell subscribers in the Letter when the change matters. About Woven in Asia.
